No single reading proves anything. Together these six are hard to fake and cheap to check on a phone — and all six run in the APK on this site, at exactly the weights below.
The true motion frequency is measured before the footfall refractory is applied, so shaking faster than 260 steps a minute cannot alias down into a believable cadence. Above that ceiling the session scores zero outright.
A person never pushes off twice with exactly the same force. A motor does. Below a coefficient of variation of 0.03 the source is mechanical and scores zero.
A phone carried by a human tumbles between strides. A rig bolted to one axis accelerates the same way every time, and we measure exactly that.
Human walking clusters between 80 and 140 steps per minute. Outside 45–220 it is not gait, and it scores nothing.
A supporting signal, deliberately weighted low: at a 50 Hz sample rate, timestamp rounding alone fakes the timing variance of a real walk.
At least six footfalls inside a rolling twelve-second window before the engine will score anything at all.
Stairs, hills and floors leave a pressure trace that corroborates the accelerometer. Level ground is neutral, never a penalty.
Score below it and the steps are still counted — they simply do not pay. Open the Proof tab in the app and watch the number move as you walk.
